    Yoga mat carrier

Tote your yoga mat in style with this easy-sew carrier

This yoga mat carrier is fun to make, and it's a great gift for fitness fans!

    You will need:

    • Floral fabric
    • Turquoise grosgrain & satin ribbons
    • Iron-on heavy-weight interfacing
    • 20mm sew-on white velcro

TIP: Remember to use a sewing machine needle designed for heavier fabrics – Velcro can be quite tough!

    Step 1

Cut a 45x50cm piece of floral patterned fabric and back it with heavyweight iron- on interfacing to make it more robust. Fold over the edges by 2.5cm to create a hem, then pin and stitch in place. Remove the pins as you go along – be careful not to accidentally sew over them or you may break your needle. The longest edge will wrap around your yoga mat when it’s rolled up.

    Step 2

Use wide grosgrain ribbon as a handle for extra strength. Cut two 50cm lengths and pin each one 5cm in from the shorter edges. Cut another piece of ribbon for the handle – as long as you like. Fold the edges of the ribbon handle around the centre of the other two pieces and pin into place. Sew the ribbon lengths to the fabric to secure the handle.

    Step 3

Wrap the fabric around the rolled up mat and mark where it overlaps. Cut a 36cm Velcro strip. Place the softVelcro strip on the underneath of the fabric, 2cm in from the edges and pin. Place the other piece of Velcro on the top of the fabric, 2cm from the side edges and this time, 2cm from the marked overlap. Check that they line up before sewing in place.
