How to make a glasses case

    As seen in Cross Stitcher

Follow our step-by-step guide to sew up a simple glasses case - the perfect way to show off your cross stitching! Or you could make it from any pretty patterned fabric.

Keep your glasses safe and sound with this easy-to-sew glasses case - complete with ribbon tie. Add any cross stitch design you like to the front - we've chosen a sea horse for our motif - it's taken from Lesley Teare's On the sea shore pattern - from issue 255 of Cross Stitcher magazine, but you could stitch anything that takes your fancy on to the front! All you need to get started is some evenweave, needle, threads and ribbon - plus some white fabric for a lining and wadding.  We love this idea for a nifty gift for bespectacled friends and family!

How to make a glasses case - step 1

    Step 1

If, like ours, you'd like to make a cross stitched case, start by stitching your design in the centre of a 20x32cm piece of evenweave. Trim your stitching and a second piece of evenweave so they both measure 13x23cm. You’ll also need two white fabric pieces for the lining and two pieces of wadding, all cut to 13x23cm.

    Step 2

Lay your stitching and a piece of white fabric right sides in, sandwiching a 25cm length of ribbon between the layers at the top. Add a piece of wadding on top. Sew through all layers, along the top edge only. Repeat for the remaining pieces.

    Step 3

Open both sets of sewn pieces out and press the seams. Right sides in, sew around the outside edge, lining up the seams at the middle. Leave an opening for turning on the lining side. Turn right sides out, slip stitch closed and push the lining inside.
