"For a long time I've been playing with the idea of creating a 'memory keeper'," says Anita Mundt. "The idea of creating something that would 'lock' away my most precious memories for safe-keeping (just like we lock those same memories in the deepest corners of our mind) had a wonderful appeal to it. I'd toyed with the idea of using a box with a lock on it, a tin and even an old diary, but it wasn't until I was out shopping one day and a mini ornamental bird cage caught my eye that the idea finally became a reality. I loved how the cage was small but perfectly formed and the door could open and close. It was just right for my project because a birdcage locks away and protects something delicate and so would my memory keeper."
