Get your photos, papers & pens ready! Lara Watson shares her tips on putting big memories on to little pages
Scrapbooking is perfect for recording and remembering a special day, but sometimes you just can't cram all the photos and memories from such a beautiful occasion into one layout!
Designer Lara Watson says, "If you're anything like me, you'll end up with hundred of photos after a friend's wedding. Mini books are the ideal solution for lots of photos - they're smaller than a layout, but jam-packed full of your favourite shots."
Mini books are really easy to make - simply cut pieces of 12x12in paper in half, then fold the pieces to create 6x6in pages. Stick the pages together back-to-back and cover the spine with a strip of pretty fabric.
Here are Lara's top tips for creating a beautiful wedding mini book - you can click on the images on the right to see them full-size.
Be snap happy!
You can never take too many photos at a wedding. It’s a day that the couple and their family and friends will want to relive over and over again. And if you waste a few shots, don’t worry! Lara explains, “You can even journal directly on to the photographs."
Focus on the small detail
While you’re taking photos at the wedding, pay attention to the little details in the room – “It’s elements such as the decorations that say an awful lot about the couple!”, says Lara. Add your own thoughts about the wedding to your mini book – the newlyweds will love to read about their big day from a guest’s point of view!
Embellish with tags & labels
Write your memories and comments on tags and labels and scatter them across the page. Don’t be afraid to mix and match these elements with toppers, letters and constrasting colours for fun and quirky effects.
But don't go too chunky!
Try not to use embellishments that are too chunky inside the book as it won’t close properly. Save your chunky brads and letters for the cover!
Cover your pages in confetti
“A photo with confetti cries out for a sprinkling of sequins and sweet mini stickers,” says Lara. The mini embellishments will complement the confetti perfectly. Lara has also used ribbons, stamps and sticky foam pads to highlight certain embellishments.
