    How to rib stitch

    As seen in Simply Knitting

    Used for hems and edges, rib is the next essential stitch that you should master.

    For this stitch, you'll need to know how to knit and purl!

    Step 1

    With your ball end yarn at the back of your work, knit a stitch.

    Step 2

    Bring the ball end yarn to the front of your work.

    Step 3

    With the ball end yarn now at the front, purl a stitch as normal.

    Step 4

    Next, you need to knit a stitch, so take the ball end yarn back through your needles and knit a stitch. Continue to knit 1, purl 1 (K1, P1) along to the end of the row.
