The lace stitch knitting pattern in this garment transforms from top to bottom to give a beautiful graduated effect. This is a hallmark technique of Japanese designer Hitomi Shida. The garment is worked flat from the bottom up, starting from an elaborate scallop-type lace hem. The initial lace pattern, which is worked on every other row, gradually transitions into a different pattern which is worked on every row at the upper body.
