InspiratIon for this knitting pattern came from Renoir’s painting The Canoeist’s Luncheon, which depicts a relaxed meal taking place beneath a lattice arbour. Designer Caroline Pearce says: “I had a childhood passion for the Impressionists, especially Renoir, and was given a book of his paintings for my seventh birthday. I love the joy and positivity in his work.” The simple lattice pattern provides a neat background to embellish the cushion with leaves in delicate Impressionist colours. Caroline has used green shades of Rico’s Baby Cotton Soft DK to recreate the softness of the original painting.

This pattern first appeared in The Knitter magazine - issue 46.
