This simple ‘recipe’ is ideal as an introduction to sock knitting, or as a basic template for your own designs
Many experienced knitters are happy with all kinds of complicated knitting, but still find socks intimidating. Rhian Drinkwater’s pattern is presented as a simple sock design that can be easily customised. Although the pattern is for a basic stocking stitch sock, it’s easy to add your favourite stitch pattern. Once you've mastered these, you can try more of our fab sock knitting patterns!
The pattern is designed for three UK shoe sizes; Small (UK size 6), Medium (UK size 7) and Large (UK size 8). If you want a larger or smaller sock, just add or remove stitches from the cast-on number (in blocks of 4 sts, so the 2x2 ribbing at the top isn’t changed), and work your heel over half the cast-on.
