This elegant garment is knitted in Debbie Bliss Angel; the striped effect is created by holding the yarn singly or trebled while knitting. It’s designed to sit at the top of a trouser or skirt waistband, and has defined waist shaping. If you’d prefer a more relaxed garment, we’d suggest reducing the extent of the waist shaping or knitting a larger size.
The body is knitted in the round, and then divided at armholes and worked front and back separately. Shoulders are joined using a three-needle cast-off, while the neckline is finished by picking up and knitting in garter stitch around. The pleated sleeves of this garment are dramatic. If you wished to make a simpler version of the garment you can make the largest sleeve size only. This will give a bell, rather than a flounced, shape. When making pleats, we recommendusing a set of smaller DPNs (we used 3mm)as it will give a neater finish, and be easierto hold them.
