"My daughter was preparing to study in London when we discovered the Lark Rise to Candleford TV series,” says the US designer Yarn Yenta. “As a mother of six, I connected with the character Emma Timmins, who was anxious about sending her 16-year-old daughter away from home. In one episode Emma reads a poem ‘Gossamer Threads’, which evokes the invisible threads that connect us to our home and family, bind us and sometimes are stretched and broken as we grow and venture out on our own.” This idea inspired these socks, with their interwoven cables.
This pattern is designed to fit three sizes, from Small (foot circumference 18cm) to Large (foot circumference 25.5cm). It's available in issue 47 of The Knitter magazine. The price we've listed is for buying the digital issue from Apple Newsstand.
