By combining different textures, including Vikkel braids, and angling them on a slant, AnneLena Mattison has produced an exciting knitted fabric for her mittens. These mittens fit medium to large women’s hands. Length 27cm, circumference 21cm. For a smaller pair, you can go down a needle size!

Note: The Knitter has added a correction for this pattern on their website.

This pattern is available in issue 50 of The Knitter - the price we've listed is for buying the digital issue on Apple Newsstand.

I see now why Vivienne and Flutterbygirl think the left and right thumbs are transposed. Looking at the pictures in the magazine, I can see that my 'left' mitten has the pattern sloping the opposite way to that pictured. I suppose we all need to work out the best way out of the mess that this pattern is. Still waiting with interest for comments from 'the team' though.

This pattern seems to be a catalogue of errors.
The charts were wrong to start with, and even the corrected charts had errors in them.
I assumed the jump between round 20m and 23 was another error, where 23 should read 21. I therefore seem to have a left mitten, as expected, but the thumb will be starting too high up the palm. I don't seem to have a right one, when I thought I was doing the left one, as Vivienne and Flutterbygirl seem to have; confusion reigns instead.
I really think more effort should be made to get the patterns right in the first place. These errors spoil what should have been an interesting and enjoyable knitting experience.

I can't see where in the pattern it indicates you place the Vikkel braids. I like tio understand the whole pattern before I start.

Hello. I have also knitted as far as the afterthought thumb on the left mitten before getting confused. I haven't knitted an afterthought thumb before so wasn't sure what was happening between 'end of round 20' & 'Rnd 23:' Luckily, after some Googling and realising the left is actually the right mitten and visa versa, I can now continue :)

I have nearly completed what I thought would be the left mitten, but there seemed to be a mistake in the pattern when I got to the thumb. It has ended up as the right mitten & I had to reverse the thumb instructions. I love the pattern but I think there are some errors, & I don't think the instruction where to place the braiding is very clear.
