    Cosy afternoon jacket

This cosy, comfy knitted jacket by Amanda Jones is the ideal way to stay both chic and snug as the seasons change

We just love a cosy jacket to snuggle up in on autumn days, but so many are too bulky, and, well, not the kind of thing we’d happily answer the door in. However, this delightful jacket from Amanda Jones will have us twirling to show off its delicious draping!

Cleverly combining comfort and style, Amanda has also managed to create a knitting project that will be a joy to work, with appealing techniques such as the short row shaping used to create the dip in the back hem, plus a charming curved front edge, and masses of garter stitch for textural interest throughout the garment. Happy twirling!

This pattern is designed for four sizes, from S (to fit bust 81-86cm) to XL (to fit bust 122-127cm). You'll find our full list of knitting abbreviations here.

This is one of our series of pdf knitting patterns first published in Simply Knitting magazine. Any reader offers or promotions featured were correct at the time of publication, but may no longer be available.

At which point do you switch from 4mm to 3.75mm needles? Can't see it in the pattern. Thanks

Hi Flossie-p! Look for the bit in the pattern where it says 'Left front button band', it's near the end of the pattern.

Please add Skill Level to all patterns. It is really important to me as a beginner.

Hi Sharon; thanks for your comment! Good suggestion; at the moment, I'm trying to make sure new knitting patterns have 'beginners' or 'intermediate' as a tag, so you can search for those words, or click on the tag to see all in that category. I'll keep adding more as we update the site!
