This short-sleeved cardigan knitting pattern is one that you’re sure to get plenty of wear out of, yet it has pretty details like lace sleeves, a scalloped hem and front borders of eyelets that make it interesting to knit and charming to look at. “The lace is only worked on the right side of your garment which makes it a nice simple project,” says designer Sarah Hatton. Sarah has charted the easy lace patterns for the sleeves and hem, but if you don’t like charted designs you could always work those parts of the pattern in stocking or moss stitch for a plainer, more solid version of the cardigan.

Rowan Wool Cotton, the yarn Sarah chose for this cardigan, knits up beautifully. The cotton content means it’s not as hot as a pure wool yarn would be, while the wool gives it stretch and helps it retain its shape. “Wool Cotton is perfect as it has a soft handle but is smooth so shows off the lace really clearly,” says Sarah.
