The pattern uses the Fair Isle technique for working the colourwork rows. You should strand the yarn not in use loosely behind the stitches being worked. It is advisable not to carry the stranded yarns over more than three stitches at a time, but weave them under and over the colour you are working. Spread the worked stitches out to their correct width after each colour change to maintain an even tension.
This pattern is designed for five men's sizes, from S (to fit chest 102cm) to XXL (to fit chest 122cm). You can find our knitting abbreviations here.

Hello Fellow Crafters, I have now started a sleeve. I am about halfway through. Really enjoying it but, oh boy, do you have to concentrate! No one talking to you, no TV, no radio, nothing! Worth it though. It's one of those patterns that really makes you feel like you have achieved something.

Hello Crazy Jackdaw - hooray love hearing about your knitting - how are you getting on with the sleeve? I know what you mean about patterns you have to concentrate on - that's why I tend to stick to patterns I can knit and watch TV at the same time, but I'd love to make something patterned like this one day! Hello Zoe, haven't got much further on it as I am now in the middle of lots of knitting and crafting for the Royal British Legion, that will be my life for the next two weeks. October was very hectic, to say the least. Didn't get much more of a chance to do any more on the sleeve whilst on holiday as hubby decided not to play golf (much to my annoyance!!) so I didn't get any quiet time. One day soon .....

Hello Jenny, yes, life is a little calmer now. After knitting poppies and glittering poppies and making headbands with crocheted poppies on, I can report that at my stall, in 2 weeks, we raised £7,246.14p, which makes me very, very happy! I am intending even more craft bits and pieces for next year - going to start in December this year - one day I would like to raise as much as £10,000 in the 2 weeks.

I have now got all the charts ready to start this. I find it a lot easier to do fair isle like this - I copy the chart, enlarge it and then following the pattern, copy it enough times for each piece. I also laminate each chart and then cross off each line as I do it, then if I have to go away from it, I know where I am when I come back to it. So, the chart for the back, fronts and sleeves are now ready, Am itching to start this but will do some more of my quilt first and then this jacket will be my knitting project next week when I am on holiday. So looking forward to starting this, but will be patient. May do this on smaller needles as 43" chest size might be a bit big for me! Crazy Jackdaw PS: I meant Deramores.

I have totally fallen in love with this pattern. Have just done a practice piece of the pattern and am really pleased with it. A beautiful design and very rhythmic and meditative to do. Have also ordered the wool. Cannot afford the Rowan wool but found a very good substitute on Dermores site (excellent people, next day delivery on my order!) This is going on holiday with me next week. It really shouldn't as I am making a quilt, knitting a blanket, making poppies, etc, etc, but what can you do when you fall in love. I am sure you know the feeling! Will load a photo later. Crazy Jackdaw
