Mount work in a hoop
As seen in Cross Stitcher
Show off your cross stitched work in a hoop! We show you how...
Wooden stitch hoops are an inexpensive way to mount up your stitched work for display. They're nicer than normal picture frames, as there's no glass or reflections to dull the thread colours.
This technique keeps your stitching fresh, taut and smooth, so your stitching will look good-as-new for years to come!
Wooden frames look great grouped together on walls, or use a larger frame as a focal point, hung up with a length of fancy ribbon.

Step 1Trim your stitching and a piece of backing fabric into an oval that’s slightly larger than your hoop. Iron both pieces until perfectly smooth. You can also use spray starch if you’ve got it, for added smoothness. |
Step 2Place the inside hoop beneath the two pieces and the outer hoop on top. Centre and press over your work. If necessary, pull your fabric edges until the front is taut and smooth. Tighten the screw as much as you can. |
Step 3Turn your stitching to the reverse and cut a piece of felt to fit the inside of the inner oval. Place the felt inside the oval. You can use a bit of PVA glue to keep it in place. Adding felt will keep your work looking nice and fresh. |
Step 4Using a glue gun or double-sided tape, begin attaching the first layer of fabric, pulling taut as you go. Repeat for the second layer. Cut a second felt oval to fit over the back of your hoop and secure in place to finish. |
