How to stitch with soluble canvas

    As seen in Cross Stitcher

Soluble canvas really is magical stuff -use it to add your stitching to all sorts of fabric - from clothing to pillow cases - not just aida or evenweave!

    Step 1

Add an extra 2cm around the design and cut the Soluble Canvas to size. Position the canvas on to your fabric and then pin and tack in place. Opt for a sharp embroidery needle to help pierce the fabric.

    Step 2

Use a loop or waste knot to start your thread and work each cross stitch over a single canvas block. You may find it's easier to identify each canvas hole by angling a light above you to reflect off the surface.

    Step 3

Once all the cross stitched areas have been stitched, work the backstitch outlines. Once complete, remove your tacking stitches, as shown above. There's no need to trim any excess canvas as it will dissolve.

    Step 4

Now all you have to do is dissolve the canvas. Place the fabric into a bowl of hot soapy water and gently agitate. The canvas will disappear within 10 minutes. To finish, rinse thoroughly and air-dry.
