    Grow your own sampler

Watching a cross stitch design appear is much the same as creating a garden, and with Lesley Grant's piece you can grow your own sampler in stitches

We all know what it's like to plant your own seeds or bulbs and then slowly watch as your flower bed gradually grows and blossoms. How like stitching it is, when you start with a blank piece of aida and gradually, stitch by stitch, grow your work until the finishing backstitch touches are planted in your fabric, making your stitching come to life and showing it off in all its blooming glory. Then, like gardeners everywhere, you get to sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labour.

Designer Lesley was inspired by the beautiful verse she found, to create this cross stitch chart for gardeners everywhere. “I enjoy gardening and get a kick out of raising my own plants, so when I saw the verse on a piece of wrapping paper, it inspired me to think of a sampler with the words and packets of flower seeds. Choosing which flowers was a bit hard, so in the end I went for the more old fashioned types, which I hope will appeal to most stitchers. I started stitching it in the middle and completed one packet at a time and finished with the verse and labels.”
