This wonderful design has all the hallmarks of a traditional family sampler with repeated patterns and a variety of exciting stitches to try, but we love the way Brenda has brought it right up to date with a few subtle touches. The rich autumnal burgundy and plum shades give it a fresh, contemporary feel, and the usual geometric lines have been broken by elegant, curving vines of flowers. This is a great project to try if you're looking for something new to keep you hooked. Have a go at eyelet stitches, satin and tent stitch, and try your hand at using DMC's Perlé threads, which have a different feel and texture to stranded cotton. You'll never look back!
