You've reached the final part of our beginners' crochet series from Simply Knitting. The series starts with the Cherry Blossom baby jacket crocheted from flat pieces, then moves on to the rucksack in the round. This throw pattern combines the two techniques, creating motifs that you can join to create all manner of things.
If you're worried that crocheted motifs can look a bit retro - the classic 'granny square' - well, they can, especially if you make them in a really wide palette of colours. We think that's a fantastic style in its own right, but if you want your motifs to look modern, make them in a few well-chosen colours like designer Debbie Tomkies has with this blanket.
