This pretty crochet wrap uses a pattern of shell motifs centred with sparkling beads for a glamorous effect. Designed by Martin Storey, the wrap drapes beautifully and feels surprisingly warm. It would look lovely worn for an evening garden party, or teamed with a simple dress for a wedding. To work the wrap, small silver-lined beads are first threaded onto the balls of yarn. The wrap is worked in two sections which mirror each other; the second section is worked into the foundation chain of the first section. This makes the wrap seamless, while at the same time adding stability in the form of the central foundation chain ‘seam’.
The repeated pattern is a great opportunity to improve your crochet technique. Martin has chosen Rowan Siena for his wrap. This mercerised 4ply-weight cotton comes in a range of jewel-like shades with a subtle sheen. Both the yarn and the Debbie Abrahams beads are machine-washable at low temperatures, making this a surprisingly practical garment.
